5 (Actually Entertaining) Marketing-Related Podcasts
Fun Fact: Did you know that podcasts were created in 2004 by former MTV video jockey Adam Curry and software developer Dave Winer? We grew up in the "I want my MTV" era and now we're living in a "I want my podcast" world. Coincidence? I think not.
Podcasts have come a long way in the past 15 years, but there are still a surprising amount of people who don't utilize them for learning. There are countless podcasts that focus on marketing alone.
If you're in marketing and looking for a good podcast to start out with, check out some of our favorites below:
Reply All with PJ Vogt and Alex Goldman
This Gimlet podcast is about the internet in general, and how technology influences people. Covering a broad range of topics, from random (hilarious) internet pop culture to its own internet investigative reporting, it will make you laugh, but it will also make you think – the best of both worlds!
Reply All helps listeners to understand the internet’s inner workings, and understanding the inner workings of the internet (and internet users) will help you to develop better digital marketing strategies.
Pop Culture Happy Hour with Linda Holmes
This NPR podcast is a pop-culture news and analysis show that discusses anything related to film, TV, books, music and more.
In this digital world, news and trends travel FAST. Weaving traces of pop culture, trending news and viral topics into the content you create is a great way to boost the validity and popularity of your content. In order to do so, you need to keep up with what’s trending in the media and online. Plus, it’ll help us old-timers stay in the loop on a general day-to-day basis.
HubSpot has launched 3 podcasts to date and, to be honest, they are all GREAT podcasts, but The Growth Show is our personal favorite. It’s a series of inspiring stories behind how people grow a business, an idea or a movement.
The Growth Show is not necessarily about digital marketing, but we find it entertaining, inspirational and motivational hearing how others have grown their ideas. Marketing takes a lot of creativity and it can be draining; when your creative well is dry, this podcast might be just the thing to inspire you and spark your creativity.
Marketing Over Coffee with John J. Wall and Christopher S. Penn
This casual podcast is just a recording of two men conversing about marketing in a different coffee shop each week. Who doesn’t love chatting with friends over coffee about something they're passionate about? Marketing Over Coffee discusses topics and shares tips on SEO to social media, and everything in between.
This one’s helpful for obvious reasons — they give lots of great information and tips. It’s laid-back and fun to listen to as well, which isn’t always the case with marketing podcasts.
The Buffer Podcast The Science of Social Media is everything you’ve ever wanted to know about social media, social media marketing and everything related to social media, discussed by social media experts from around the world. There are two things we love about this podcast: 1) It’s fun — just as social media was originally intended to be, and 2) You get tons of useful information.
Hearing experts talk about what they do best is always beneficial, but hearing multiple experts with different experiences and different perspectives talk on a subject is even more valuable.
The power of podcasts is real, y'all. If you're skeptical of podcasts, give one of these bad boys a try and we promise you'll be converted.
